Welcome to Local Aotearoa. We’re currently in the process of experimenting with the site, so please excuse any hiccups along the way.
The Hutt City Council has elected to advertise their Chief Executive Officer role to give them security of leadership as the city tackles major infrastructure projects. The move allows them to either reappoint incumbent Jo Miller (if she applies) for another five year term as opposed to the standard two year extension in the Local Government Act, or appoint a new CEO.
Issues at Gore District Council have finally come to a head with councillors asking the mayor to resign and pressing ahead with motions of no confidence, a likely illegal attempt to remove the Mayor from committees, and requesting a meeting with the Local Government Minister.
Rental properties, holiday homes, jobs on the side, company directorships, shareholdings, and links to religious organisations are just some of the things revealed about those elected to our local authorities as the first copies of the new pecuniary interests registers, required by the amended Local Government Act, begin to appear on council websites.
